People want to assist in times of disaster. Offering people ways to help those in need after a disaster has been very successful for businesses. Indeed, such initiatives can safeguard business interests abroad, engage employees, and boost PR. But after a significant disaster, it can be challenging to make a difference. To deploy the most aid to the most victims, disaster response must be coordinated and quick. How can one business truly impact society?

Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund Global Impact is an illustration of this practice. In the Philippines in November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan affected over 13 million people and caused an estimated 3.4 million to be displaced. Within 24 hours of the storm’s landfall, Global Impact established the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund, enabling donors to contribute right away. Additional to:

  • Offering the fund online
  • Global Impact set up a text-to-give campaign
  • Created customized landing pages for select workplaces
  • Enable donation match programs
  • An example of this practice is Global Impact’s Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund Global Impact.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

Richard Arkenstone

The fund earned more than $200,000 in pledges from a combination of individuals, four corporate matching programs and other sources. Donations were distributed to seven of the most respected U.S. charities who were providing on-the-ground services to storm victims, including the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and CARE and Save the Children.
